 Im going on-road !!!!
Ahaha so after doing some dummy bidding on ebay, i won a bid on an item !!!! Ahahah so now i'm the owner of an on-roader !!! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWNX:ITLooks like it's in pretty good nick. Lets hope it's not totally flogged out or something. Buyer says they have had it for 8 months. Chassis condition is ok, and form what i can see of the gears it's ok. May need some new tyres though Hahahahah... now to figure out what item of the mrs' to sell in order to pay for it

Looks like a great deal for that price. Trev was selling the Team Infinity foams which are great

Yeah it's a good deal. We'll see what condition it is in when i get it. The one thing that is worrying me is the add states i'll need a glow plug. I'll be interested to see if the guy ships the car without any form of cap i nthe glow plug hole. Then you gotta wonder how long the engine has jsut been open like that. I'll have to check out the engine first thing before i fire up the car me thinks. we'll see how much rust is in it!!!

even though it says the tyres are near new, the standard tread tyres will not last long

it's not a big deal, the VX16 is a good engine, besides it wont be long before you'll be swapping it out for one of Trev's IT .21's

the vx.16 was good for me then when i was sick of it tryed modding the ports which worked out really well, escpecially for on road. how ever i have both vx. 16 and .18 both with silver heads so its just a matter of checking 'em out

 Im going on-road !!!!
So i got the car. It looks to be in reasonably good nick. The egnine however... the internals look to be in good nick (piston and sleeve look perfect, no play in the crank pin/con rod/piston). One thing that is concerning me though, is there seems to be some forward/backward play in the crankshaft itself!!!! When i take off the fly wheel nut, and remove the fly wheel and collet, the crank can be pushed into the engine flush, and then i can put the collet on fineto get no play, but then when i go and bolt on the flywheel theres a tiny tick of play goign backward and forward... it is actually the crank that is moving forward and backward about as much play as youd expecte in a clutch bell.
I'm assuming that's not normal!?!?!? ANd yes according to the crank case it is a vertex 16

when you tighten the crankshaft nut the crankshaft will be pulled forward so it is tightened against the front bearing. So if there is some play it shouldn't affect the engine at all. If there is play it will be in the bearing itself

Now that it is all clean and such, ill fire up the engine prolly tonight and see how it goes... after looking at the on-raoder i'm considering selling the tyranno... i really like the on-roader.. it's a nice small thing that doens't take up too much bench space It's REALLY low to the ground though !!!!! there's maybe 1cm of ground clearance... will have to find a carpark

Well i tried to start the car today and it wouldn't start at all. It doesn't seem to be pulling in fuel. I'll have to test for airleaks tomorow or something.
EDIT: After a bit more investigation, the pipe had a bit of a hole in it which was mended with cold metal putty, and the oring on the fuel tank was a bit worse for wear so i put another oring in and it seems to be pretty good now. Also put some new fuel line in. It fires up and i hadn't tuned it but it wad running pretty damn fast on the road. THe bad thing is the road infront of my house is not ashphalt (its that old school bitumen stuff) and you can hear the chassis scraping when you go over the little crest i nthe middle of the road.

Try the fuel tank seal. I have three sitting here which leak and therefore wont start. Try soaking the seal in fuel and see if the elasticity comes back
