cool looking servo claimed torque of 16kg at 4.6v The other day I was running a traxxas 2018 servo on my xt2 after a while I could hear a clicking noise coming from it when I turned the steering, on further inspection the servo under load split the casing straight down the side and would pry apart hence the slipping cogs making the noise, it originally came with HiTec items HS-311 which are just rubbish if you ask me, I have a mg995 sitting there but I don't like the centering issues they have, ds6305 jr "full metal jacket" these servo's look like they are 1 tuff little unit, I WANT I WANT the ds3601 has a claimed 33kg at 4.6v wow

i bought it to replace a ace 1313 on steering which gave up the ghost BETWEEN RUNS i couldnt believe it when i turned the car on and the steering servo decided not to work anymore, the jr is a great servo but you get what you pay for and i could get 3 or 4 ace 1313 for what i payed for the jr

why do you get the 1313's ?? the 1015 are far stronger and a better servo aswell, not much more expensive either.

Well I did a side by side test as it seemed that the new MG996 was a bit slower than what I remember the MG995's were but it's the same. The case seems to be the same material despite being of a better material and they are branded "Towardpro" They don't seem to carry on chirping at neutral like a drunken budgie like some of the brumbys I have bought of fleabay, so I don't know if they are worth the extra price. Don't ask me what I paid for 'em either One of the nephews asked me to grab him one the next time I ordered from the mob I get my stuff from. Stuff me and roast me Trav I just had a look at the price of those JR servos you could buy 15 MG995's of Trev for the price of one of them On a forum that deals with Chinese cars that cost less than that servo

But like Trav said, you pay for the reliability, the MG's can be hit and miss sometimes and if your paying a few hundred $$$ to travel to big events to do well then you don't want a $19 servo that may play up at any time, for bashers its a different story.

Yeah dead right, it's the same when I travel to melb to go and have a run with the r/c cars with the nephews, I don't want the cars to play up so I put the best stuff in I can afford. And now the $$ begins with the 1/5 for the same reasons I do like the Ace or Futaba servos but...

Just wondering how the 996 is going for you Jeff, I bought a few the other day very cheap so i'm waiting for them to turn up, was a bit sketchy on buying them as the last 995's I had made my throttle servo go crazy and centering was a major issue aswell when I dropped one in my road car...

I have one in the Rusty basher Matt, and it is still going strong despite everybody's attempts to destroy the lttle bugger They were purchased from Hobbycity to try and avoid the "clone of clone" issue which struck the MG995's I bought of fleabay a while ago (three out of six died/doa). Trev's MG995's have always been rock solid for me though, obviously a better batch. I am trying to standardise on Ace servos mainly DS1313's atm

Sweet, I really like the grunt these servo's pump out with a good hump pack, if I get one or two that work good I will be happy considering what I paid for them, will drop some grease in them soon as I get them to be safe and then it's fingers crossed from there

If you are running a Spekky reciever (or any other rec rated for Li-Po's) they really hum along on 7.4V from a 2S Li-Po

Yeah I relly want to go spektrum radio gear and go lipo with the hump pack, been having to many issues with servo's and radio gear lately, then again I have been hitting the jumps hard, even starting to notice some extra play in the diffs time to pull it down while I wait for these servos, would lipo and mg996r's be an ok setup for racing Jeff or would they be to slow in the steering side of things??? also i'm not real flash with lipo and I have a swallow2 charger, will I need a balancer for charging them and if so where can I find a well priced battery and balancer??? Cheers

Hey Matt, I have seen blokes charging Li-Po's at the races and they have only used Swallow V2's w/out balancers....Plenty of people here will howl me down for saying this but I believe if you balance charge a new Li-Po first time and balance charge every tenth charge you will be fine. I balance every charge coz I have a balancer though, but if I didn't I would be balance charging every tenth time if I had to borrow one. Li-Po and a MG996R will give good fast torque and speed, about 14kg, way faster than a 6.0V humpy and lighter and cheaper ($8.49usd). No doubt there will be somebody out there racing with a MG995'6R and doing it well, and by all means go for it till you can afford to buy better.

HMM got me thinking now, might try and do some research in to that Jeff cheers, just finished stripping the buggy and give it a hit with some simple green, hot water and a paint brush, this stuff is brilliant, Trev sure knows his $hit, this stuff does not even break down the marine grease that I use yet strips nitro oil like metho, I even scrubbed my grp wheels and it left the tyre nice and tacky like it was brand new again
